"The General" is part of "The North Platte Collection".

It was taken on February 23, 2026 at 8:01 AM. This morning I belly crawled to the edge of the NPR on a property that I had just gotten permission on the day before. I had gotten to my position at roughly 5:50 without pushing out too many birds. Throughout the morning pintail and mallards continued to roost in as the river was half frozen and they were staging for the upcoming migration. At 8:00 a bald eagle flew up the river and thousands of mallards erupted from the river. This was my favorite shot from the encounter. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed taking it.
